The airport is located 45 kilometres east of Istanbul's European centre and 20 kilometres east of its Asian centre. Istanbul Airport has two terminals, which are located within short walking distance of each other. Together, these two terminals offer four ATMs, a bank, and a post office. The terminals also house several car rental offices where passengers can book for cheap car hire at Istanbul Airport.

There are several duty free shops located on both Arrivals Hall and Departures Area of the airport's international terminal. In addition, the airport boasts a wide array of regular stores ranging from bookstores, gift shops, and travel accessories shops. Lounges for VIPs and business class passengers are also available at Istanbul Airport. The VIP lounge is located in Departures A while the lounge for business class passengers, the CIP lounge, is in Departures B. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
